Drops straight down, so nothing is thrown into the beds
Rate control on the handle
About this product
Feed a big lawn without ending up with stripes.
A walk-behind drop spreader with a 12 litre hopper and a 55 cm spread width, for seed, fertiliser, sand or top soil.
A drop spreader lays seed or granular fertiliser in a straight band the width of the hopper. That is what you want next to beds, paths and tight curves, where a broadcast spreader throws product where it should not go.
The 12 litre hopper holds enough for up to 1000 m2, and the rate control on the handle sets how much falls through.
Uneven feeding shows up as stripes: dark bands where the fertiliser landed twice and pale ones where it missed. A spreader fixes that by putting down the same amount on every pass.
This one drops the product straight down through the base of the hopper, in a 55 cm band. Overlap each pass with the wheel track of the last and you get even cover without throwing seed or feed into the beds.
The rate control sits on the handle, so you can set it to the rate on the bag and change it without stopping. A baffle plate above the spreading shaft takes the weight of the load off the shaft so the product feeds through evenly.
It is built for dry, granular material: grass seed, fertiliser, sand and top soil. Wash it out after use, especially after fertiliser or salt.

Your guarantees under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 apply, and nothing we say limits them. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order, including how many metres a bed needs.
Yes, you can. As with fertiliser, wash it out well when you have finished.
How wide is the spreader path?
55 cm, which is 22 inches.
Is this product suitable to spread pre-emergent over half an acre?
Yes. The hopper holds 12 litres and covers up to 1000 m2 per fill, so a larger area just takes more refills.
Is the setting for the spreader easy for fertiliser?
Yes. You set the rate with the control on the handle.
What can I put through it?
Grass seed, granular fertiliser, sand and top soil. It is made for dry, granular material.
Can it spread liquid fertiliser?
No. It is a drop spreader for dry granular products. Liquid feeds need a sprayer.
How much does the hopper hold?
12 litres, which the store rates at up to 1000 m2 of lawn per fill.
How tall is it?
110 cm to the top of the handle.
How big are the wheels?
18.5 cm.
What is the difference between a drop spreader and a broadcast spreader?
A drop spreader lets the product fall straight down in a band the width of the hopper, here 55 cm. A broadcast spreader throws it out in an arc. Dropping it is more precise next to beds, paths and tight curves.
Where does a drop spreader work best?
On medium sized lawns that need an even, precise application, such as heavily landscaped areas or lawns with tight curves, where a broadcast spreader would throw product into the beds.
How do I avoid stripes when I spread?
Overlap each pass slightly with the wheel track of the last one, walk at a steady pace, and close the hopper when you stop or turn.
How do I control the spread rate?
The rate control on the handle sets how much falls through. Start low and check the label of the product you are spreading for its recommended rate.
What does the baffle plate do?
It sits above the spreading shaft and acts as a filter, taking the weight of the load off the shaft so the product feeds through evenly.
Can I use it for overseeding?
Yes. Mow short, rake out any thatch, then run the spreader over the lawn at a low rate so the seed lands evenly.
Can I spread top soil or sand with it?
Yes, dry sand and top soil can go through it. Damp material clumps and will not feed through evenly.
When is the best time to spread seed or fertiliser?
Spring and autumn suit seed and most lawn feeds. Follow the timing on the product you are spreading.
How do I clean it after use?
Empty the hopper, rinse it with water, especially after fertiliser or salt, and let it dry before you store it.
Is it heavy to push?
It is a light, walk-behind spreader that runs on two wheels and is easy to steer.
Is the frame strong?
It has a heavy duty frame for stability while you push it.
Does it need assembly?
If anything about assembly is unclear when it arrives, email us and we will talk you through it.
Is the price shown the price I pay?
Yes. Prices are in New Zealand dollars and the cart total is what you pay at checkout.
What does delivery cost?
Delivery is free on orders of $100 or more. Below that a flat $30 applies, and Express Delivery is $30 on any order.
How long does delivery take?
We dispatch within 2 working days. Delivery then takes up to 7 working days by tracked courier.
Do you deliver everywhere in New Zealand?
Yes, we deliver to addresses all over New Zealand.
